Streaming Video

I have, with Mr. Kremer’s help, moved a short  video to the blog.  Maybe, this is going  to be  a  new thing that happens often.

Shakespearean Language

7th and 8th Grade Notes

Shakespeare used verse to:

1. express deep emotion in elevated language

2.  Make wise, penetrating, and reflective observations that required lofty language

3.  Present lyrical poems in their entirity

4.  Inject irony

5.  suggest order and exactitude

Shakespeare used prose to:

1.  express ordinary observations from the surface of the mind, not thinking about it first

2.  Make quick one-line replies

3.  Present auditory relief for the audience

4.  Suggest madness or senility

5. Depict rambling conversation

6. Poke fun at characters who lack the “wit” or intelligence to converse in poetry

7.  Show that prose has merit as a literary medium–that prose is just as thought provoking as poetry

I plan to put some links in place (when I learn how to do it) so you all can see clips from streaming videos and read reviews and commentaries.

We are coming into Act III of both plays ROMEO AND JULIET and TWELFTH NIGHT.  Please read Act III scenes i and ii for Monday. Have a great weekend!!!!!!!

Since October is “Poetry Month”, it just seems natural that we would be starting our Shakespeare Unit in both 7th and 8th grade.

7th Grade:

You have been issued ROMEO AND JULIET. We will begin reading it after Outdoor School. The first thing that we discuss is the man, Shakespeare and the Elizabethan Age.

8th Grade:

You will be issued your TWELFTH NIGHT this week. We will begin with discussions of Shakespeare and his world as well as theater as he knew it.

We are also looking at poetry of all kinds, sizes, and shapes and celebrating that genre in literature.

Two of the things are fun writing practices much like “Pop Goes the Verb”.  Have fun with it. I am looking forward to reading your magnificent  musings.

Back to School Night

Welcome Parents!

I am delighted to be at St. Luke’s. I have finally established my web site. I wanted one that could be interactive where the students could “blog” comments, questions or ideas concerning the assignments. Your comments are welcomed,as well. Thank you all for making my first couple of weeks run so smoothly. I really appreciate it.
