7th Grade
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Perfect community
Perfect family
Perfect Job
Perfect existence
This is the premise for the new novel 7th grade is reading.
Thought for the week: What would it be like to live without color, warmth, music, and personal relationships just to avoid pain? Please respond with a comment. I am really interested in what you think.

I found a web cite with an interview of Otto Frank. I am trying to link it to my blog. I will keep trying.

I think that life would be very bland because nothing very interesting would happen except your ceremony every year. There isn’t something to look forward to. I would get annoyed at the rules because it is like constrained/ constricted (I forgot the word). But I would also be afraid because I would wonder why they even have the rules, if there was something frightening that they are hiding from us.
I think that life in a colorless, musicless, or personal relationships would beunberably. I think this because there would benothing to see, hear, or enjoy. Without these things there is really no point in actually living. You wouldn’t be happy. Pain should not even be tried to be avoided because it will be experienceed wether you like it or not.
If I had to go without these things, these “necessities” that we would probably call them, then I would feel held back from the outside world, or ‘Elsewhere.’ I would probably go insane because I don’t believe that there can be a ‘perfect’ world, like the one that Jonas lives in. People have to make mistakes in order to learn, and if no one breaks the rules EVER, what good are rules at all? I would feel very secluded, as if in a room with all mirrors, and no way out.
Life without color, warmth, music, and personal relationships would be pointless. What would there be to see or do? We would go around everyday, only knowing half of the real world. Just imagine never getting to see a rainbow and its colors, or never getting to hear music? And also never being able to love?!?! You can never discover who you really are because you perceive things in the wrong way. These ideals allow us to understand and figure out. They form who we are, what we know, and what we do.

It kindof depends. Do we know that there is such thing as color, music, and feelings or do we have no idea what they are?
If we knew that they existed then it would be terrible to know that we were being deprived of these amazing things for the sake of protecting us! It would be intollerable and unbearable and all of the synonyms for those two words!!!
But, if we did not know that any of those things existed then it would not be so bad. How can you say that it would be intollerable if you had no idea what they were much less that they existed?
This is an interesting question that needs an interesting answer and i hope i have given it to you. The circumstances in which this question is asked make it hard to answer and i hope i did the bast that i could.

Sorry that was kindof long!

hey! well if i had to live without color, i quess i wouldnt know any better but that would be pretty miserable to not be able to say yeah that green is so pretty! or i don’t like that shade of red. Colors and music are so important because they show individuality, opinion, and personality.
as for avoiding these things along with warmth and personal relationships, i think it’s pretty ridiculous. why would people try so hard to avoid things that would help them? they rely so deeply on the reciever to hold all of these memories so that in times of need they can consult him or her, but why don’t they all experience them so they don’t have to rely on the well being of one person? Even when they avoid emotions, they still have feelings of being insecure and unsure about things they havent seen or felt or delt with. i think the elders are being selfish and foolish to feel that the whole community shouldnt be able to be different or feel emotions. in the end, they are actually causing other emotions that wouldn’t be necessary.
oh by the way, how in the world do they think color would affect the people? i understand that desicions would arise and people would have to make choices but really, is the world gonna fall apart because someone waers blue and others don’t? i mean really eleders, USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!!!
Good one regan!
Haha!

Hey Mrs.Grimes! well my mom was looking at grade speed and she noticed a missing grade. I looked at the assignment and it was one of those worksheet that you gave us recently. SPecifically, you gave us this one and some people turned it in a day early, but i didn’t. i turned it in the date you told us and maybe you didn’t see it or something…
